The dense tropical forest of Nepal is home to many animals and birds preserving some of the endangered species of the planet. The jungle is sheltering One-Horned Rhino, Royal Bengal Tiger, Red Panda and crocodile. These animals are on verge of extinction especially, due to deforestation, increasing population and illegal poaching. Chitwan National Park— It is the first national park of the country which is recognized as World Heritage Site. It is home to more than 700 species of wildlife including around 43 species of mammals such as-- One-Horned Rhino and Royal Bengal Tiger. According to bird watchers and conservationists there are more than 500 species of birds in Chitwan National Park. The park is around 155 KM away from Kathmandu.

Bardia National Park— It is a largest National Park of the country covering an area of 968 square KM in Mid-Western Region. The Park is shelter for around 53 mammals including rhinoceros, wild elephant, Bengal tiger, swamp deer, and Gangetic dolphin. Apart from this, 23 species of reptile and amphibian are found in the Park as Karnali and Babai rivers borders the area.

Shuklaphata Wildlife Reserve— It is situated in Far-Western Region of the country enveloping 305 square KM area. It homes 28 species of fish, 46 mammal including Bengal Tiger and Indian Leopard and more than 400 species of birds.

Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve— It is situated in the eastern part of the country covering 175 square KM area of wetlands. It inhabits 31 species of mammals including Wild Water Buffalos, Asian Elephant, and spotted dear. More than 200 species of fish and 450 species of birds are also recorded here.
